What U. Miami Students Say About...
Student Body
At "Club UM," the typical student "wears designer clothes to class and heels (if female), drives a BMW, has a cell phone attached to her ear (probably speaking another language, such as Spanish or Portuguese), works out every day of the week, parties at least three times a week, and (if female) has her books tucked away in her Coach backpack." This student "tends to be more concerned with their appearance than average and tends to be self-absorbed." Many "come from New York or New Jersey. There is a strong Hispanic population and a strong Jewish population." However, "there are a good number of atypical students as well, and they fit in simply by wearing normal clothes to class, less makeup, and not conforming to the superficial tendencies of the rest of the students." Many agree that the student body's most compelling asset is its sizable international population. "You learn a lot from classes, but you end up learning more from the people that you associate yourself with, so in the case of UM with its huge international population and range of students, you end up with a first-class education about the world," writes one student.
